Pimp My Rover MG - A community car art project of my own creation.

My final project for my FdA in Contemporary Art Practice-

The project was designed by myself and the aim was to transform this mechanically faulted vehicle into a car art piece to redress the image of Longbridge, a visual piece which allowed reflection upon the industrial history of Longbridge, its history as a car manufacture site and shadow factory, whilst allowing participants a chance to change its image and thus embrace the future; Longbridge as a commercial town.

I first created the doodle art imagery on the bonnet, depicting the change from industrial 'cogs' to new growth 'plants' and then asked people to leave their mark upon the vehicle.

The project was implemented at Pride of Longbridge 2017, with special thanks to Gemma Cartwright of POL and Oliver Armstrong of NAF and to everyone else who stood by my, rather crazy, idea to let visitors to POL draw all over my car with sharpies. I thank them for their patience too, throughout the 8 months of project planning and my doodle art craziness. . The bonnet was displayed within POPIn shop in Birmingham Priory Square and then Bournville College, with the college being situated on the old Longbridge Rover sight, this was most apt. until June 2017 when it was reunited with the vehicle and displayed at Northfield Carnival 2017.

Sadly the car body was sold in December 2017 - No permanent display point was found and it was stripped to save another dying MG.

The bonnet is still available for shows and exhibition though! Please get in touch if you would like to discuss options.
